Frequently Asked Questions
Each regatta has its own rules and program. As a rule, registration for international regattas begins a few days before the start. You can request this information from the organizer or a skipper. All event details can be found on the event page. Also, we recommend the organizers to fill all the details in advance.
What clothes do I need?
The main rule is to dress comfortably and according to the weather.
windbreaker and pants or shorts;
T-shirt/jacket with UV protection (thermal underwear and fleece);
We recommend purchasing a long-sleeved jacket with UV protection to protect yourself from the sun and strong wind.
Yachting shoes should be:
light, with non-slip white outsole;
with the fixed heel;
with a tightly closed nose.
When sailing without shoes, you can fall or injure your fingers and feet on the deck. There are many protruding parts on the boat that are easy to catch. Unfortunately, even experienced sailors are not protected from unpleasant injuries when they ignore this simple rule.
What about the weather?
The reason for the cancellation of a regatta, a race or a training sailing can only be a strong storm. Before sailing, please check the weather forecast: wind forecast and weather forecast.
The end of the regatta
The official closing for each regatta is prescribed by its regulations, but we still recommend to have 1-2 days for the relaxed completion of the regatta and participation in post events. The regatta program may vary due to weather conditions or other difficulties or unforeseen circumstances. You can also consult with a skipper, an organizer or the owner of the yacht before booking.
Do I need a visa?
Depending on where you live, you may need a Visa. Russian citizens need a Schengen visa to enter the countries of the European Union.
Safety at the sea
Be careful when working with loaded ropes. Never step or sit on ropes. Always wear gloves. When working with a winch, your fingers should never be between the drum and the ropes. Be careful not to get the ends of your clothes or long hair in the winch. Take care of your head: beware of the geek and the spinnaker geek.
Are there any restrictions for participation in the regattas?
To participate in regattas you must be over 18. For some routes, there are restrictions for people with age and health problems. To participate in some regattas some sailing experience is required.
Do I need an insurance policy?
To participate in regattas or other sailing events, you may need standard travel insurance for active recreation. In some countries, the insurance is purchased for the whole period of the trip.
